Considered the next-most-bes-by-rapid-recovery-hippie-in- shape-selling phenomenon of the 21st century, Nexium has quietly gained traction among big drug wholesalers as a potential alternative to generic drugs.

Nexium, a once-a-day pill sold under the brand name AstraZeneca, was just the latest pharmaceutical company to go into administration mode this month, as the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced it was planning a $2 billion tax credit to help pay for its manufacturing cost.

But, the company said it would continue to manufacture and distribute Nexium, while the FDA will soon be reviewing the decision. That will be done by a new joint review process for the new drug.

Nexium is one of the few prescription drugs with a generic equivalent, meaning it has a much lower cost compared with other drugs.

But, the company has struggled to get it approved to meet the company's projected demand, with it currently spending around $2.2 billion on research, marketing and sales.

The drugmaker has been working with the FDA for the last few months, working closely with the agency to ensure it remains up-to-date and available on its own. Its chief executive officer, Chris Hamner, confirmed that the company is in discussions with the FDA and intends to keep the process secret.

Nexium is available on the pharmacy benefit manager (PBOMS) platform, which is used to collect patient information on its pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) pharmacy benefit managers (PBOMs) program.
